Kilsyth's Fire Station built in a year
Kilsyth's new Fire Station situated on Burnside Industrial Estate, has been completed
in one year at a cost of £27,900.
To this figure is to be added the cost of furnishings and £5,000 for a new fire-fighting
tender.
Accommodation consists of Double Bay Appliance Room, Watch Room, Muster Bay, Recreation
Room with Kitchen off, Ablutions and Storage. A 35 foot high Drill Tower is
attached to
the rear of the building, and the Station has a covered wash area and Drill Yard.
General Construction is of load-bearing brick walls carrying laminated timber roof beams
and timber sarking finished on top with builtup roofing felt. As this site was infilled,
being part of an old coal bing, it was necessary to provide a special reinforced concrete
raft foundation.
Externally the finish is "Auchinlea" facing bricks with Cedar infill panels.
Floor finishes are quarry tiles in the Appliance Room, Muster Bay, and Ablutions;
elsewhere, wood strip, wood block or P.V.C. tiles.
The Hose Target and Water Storage Tank for pump testing are located to the rear of the
Drill Yard.
Heating is by means of fan assisted electric storage heaters; electric radiant strip
heaters are installed in the Appliance Room.
