M.P. opens new fire station
A new fire station at Clarkston was officially opened today by Miss
Betty Harvie Anderson, M.P. for East Renfrewshire.
The station, which cost £116,986 , was built to replace Darnley fire station and is the
14th new station to be built in the Western Area of Renfrew, Argyll and Bute in the past
ten years.
Work began on the station in June of last year and it was completed in June of this year
12 weeks ahead of schedule. The two storey building was designed by the Renfrew
County architect to fit into the surrounding area.
The station which will serve Renfrew First District the parishes of Mearns,
Eaglesham, Cathcart and Eastwood has a two bay appliance area, workshop, garage,
dormitory, offices, lecture and recreation rooms as well as a special breathing apparatus
training section and will be manned by a resident station officer, 4 sub officers and 18
firemen.

East Renfrewshire M.P. Miss Betty Harvie Anderson hitches a lift on a fire engine! The
Conservative M.P. officially opened the new £117,000 fire station at Clarkston last week,
and after performing the opening ceremony she toured the impressive new building. The
station has been built to replace Darnley fire station, and is the 14th
new base to be built by the Western Area Fire Brigade in ten years
The building has a two bay appliance area, workshop, garage, dormitory, offices, lecture
and recreation rooms as well as a special breathing apparatus training section. It will be
manned by a resident station officer, four sub officers and 18 firemen.
