On 3rd April, 1970 the personnel and appliances of Rutherglen Fire Station, as part of Lanarkshire Fire Brigade, transferred to the new Cambuslang station in Clydeford Street after unsuccessful attempts to find suitable ground for a new station. Part of the terms of one of the leases stated that the site could only be used for Fire Brigade purposes and termination of the lease required all the fire brigade buildings would need to be removed.
(Lanarkshire Fire Committee minutes. 3/4/1970.)

It was agreed to dispose of the Fire Station at Rutherglen. (Lanarkshire Fire Committee minutes. 29/4/1970.)
