Notes
APPROVED APPARATUS IS BEST
The town of Penicuik has cause to be pleased that it possesses approved fire
apparatus, designed and built by experts. At a recent serious outbreak of fire
in a wood pulp store, the town’s Dennis “Ace” motor pump was put to work, from
open water, 21 feet below ground level.
For the next 40˝ hours, says Chief Officer Charles E. Mason, the “Ace” kept
solidly at work, and, with an average pump pressure of 75 lbs., provided three
good fire fighting jets.
(Fire, June, 1938. page 19.)
Penicuik Fire Station was
reported as in danger of collapse, approval was obtained for the erection of a
temporary station on a new site made available by the Local authority. It was
intended to erect a wooden structure, but on estimate it was found that a better
and cheaper job could be obtained in brick.
(Firemaster’s Annual Report Year ending 31/12/1953.)
Penicuik
temporary building not to go ahead, now to be a permanent station. The Station
was in commission on 24th August 1954.
(Firemaster’s Annual Report Year ending 31/12/1954.)
In the Integrated Risk Management Plan 2005/2010 a new team of Wholetime staff will be based at Penicuik Fire Station supporting the Retained staff and working a new shift pattern. (May 2006).
Day crewing will possibly start 2007/2008. At present 2 wholetime firefighters are retained firefighters when the are off duty from wholetime. (10/9/2006)
